China's new energy battery recycling industry has shown rapid development, with comprehensive utilisation levels continuously improving and significant achievements in the construction of recycling networks.
According to the "China New Energy Battery Recycling Industry Development Report 2024" released on November 20, China's new energy battery recycling capacity has rapidly increased, with comprehensive utilisation reaching 825,000 mt in 2023. By the end of October this year, five batches of 148 standardised enterprises had been selected and cultivated, and 10,000 recycling service outlets had been established in 327 prefecture-level administrative regions nationwide, achieving near-complete collection and forming a preliminary diversified recycling network.
In recent years, China's new energy battery recycling industry has made positive progress, but further efforts are needed in technological innovation and international competition. The next step will be to accelerate the establishment of a technology innovation system led by enterprises and integrating industry, academia, and research. In terms of strengthening international exchanges and cooperation, enterprises are encouraged to "go global," including technical cooperation and investment in building factories.
Experts indicate that China's power batteries have now entered a stage of large-scale retirement, with the volume of waste batteries expected to exceed 1 million mt by 2030. With technological advancements, policy support, and expanding market demand, the new energy battery recycling industry will continue to maintain a rapid development trend.
